A cyanoacrylate accelerator may help shorten the fixture step when an assembly needs faster handling. It is a process aid, not a universal replacement for the correct adhesive grade or surface preparation. TongLin Adhesive evaluates accelerator-supported products by the actual substrate, gap, dose, and customer validation method.
What an accelerator can change
An accelerator can help a selected cyanoacrylate reach an initial fixture point more quickly under a defined process. The benefit is most useful when the line needs faster handling but still has a controlled joint fit and repeatable dispensing. It should be evaluated with the adhesive grade and package that will be used in production.
The TongLin catalog identifies S505, S506, and S505 M as low-viscosity grades with an accelerator reference. Their listed viscosity range is 1.8–5 mPa·s, but the accelerator does not remove the need to confirm wetting, appearance, fixture time, and final joint performance.
Control the application instead of adding more product
| Process point | Question to answer | Validation record |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Is the surface clean, dry, and compatible with the aid? | Material, coating, and cleaning method |
| Amount | Is the accelerator applied consistently and only where needed? | Application tool, coverage, and dose |
| Sequence | Is the order and waiting time repeatable? | Time between application and bonding |
| Joint | Does the selected grade still wet the gap evenly? | Gap, bead or drop, and alignment |
| Performance | Does faster fixture preserve the required result? | Handling, appearance, conditioning, and test data |
Avoid assuming that a larger amount always makes the process better. Excess material can change appearance, increase residue, or create a result that does not represent normal production. The right amount depends on the product, surface, and process window.
How to validate an accelerator-supported grade
- Run a baseline with the adhesive alone on the real production substrates.
- Add the accelerator using the intended tool and a controlled amount.
- Compare fixture time, alignment, appearance, and failure mode.
- Repeat after normal storage and process variation are introduced.
- Approve the combination only after the customer-defined performance test.
For a private-label package or a changed dispensing format, review the cyanoacrylate OEM service and send the process details through Contact. An accelerator may improve a specific assembly step, but it does not guarantee suitability for every substrate or joint.
