Cyanoacrylate Adhesive Failure Analysis

A cyanoacrylate failure is easier to solve when the symptom is separated from the process condition that created it.

Quality engineer analyzing cyanoacrylate adhesive failure modes on industrial test parts

Cyanoacrylate failure analysis should begin with the symptom and then trace the material, surface, dose, joint, environment, and storage history. Slow cure, weak bonds, blooming, and a blocked nozzle can have different causes even when they appear on the same line. A structured record prevents a team from changing adhesive grade before checking the process.

Symptom-to-check matrix

Symptom First checks Do not assume
Slow cure Surface cleanliness, gap, humidity, dose, and package age A slower joint always means the grade is wrong
Low strength Joint fit, surface preparation, cure time, test method, and failure mode The TDS strength value applies to every substrate
Blooming or white residue Excess dose, ventilation, humidity, enclosed geometry, and cure conditions Blooming is only a product-quality label
Nozzle clogging Closure, contamination, air exposure, nozzle size, and line handling A new nozzle alone will solve the cause

Check the process in order

Quarantine the affected lot and record the product code, lot, package, opening time, storage condition, substrate batch, and operator method. Compare a retained sample with a new sample under the same controlled test. Then review:

  • surface cleaning and whether residue or moisture changed;
  • actual gap and dose rather than the nominal setting;
  • nozzle, closure, dispensing pressure, and time exposed to air;
  • fixture time, conditioning, and the customer’s final test method.

The product range offers different viscosity references, but a replacement should follow evidence from the joint and process. The application guide for dose and nozzle can help organize the check.

Record corrective action and validation

Write the suspected cause, evidence, temporary containment, corrective action, and retest result. A process change is not closed until representative parts pass the agreed acceptance test. TongLin OEM service can support a technical review when the issue involves grade, package, or private-label production.

Do not treat one symptom as proof of a formula defect or a universal substrate limit. Confirm the material and process on the customer’s parts, then send the lot and test evidence through Contact.
